This great image courtesy of Walter Powell shows a determined looking Raymond Alexander Christenson in front of an unidentified plane before an operation. Raymond Alexander Christenson and his crew completed 10 trips as a crew, trained on Halifaxes, and retrained on Lancasters, and completed many dangerous operations over Germany. Their flights ended when the war was over, amazingly, all crew survived and returned safely to Canada.

The two youngest Canadians, Cameron Clare Campbell and Walter Henry Powell volunteered for another tour, but this was not to be, as the war ended with the US dropping on atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

A quiet man of few words, Raymond Alexander Christenson looked after his crew, vacationed with them and waited up for them when they volunteered for extra flights with other crew, as both Cameron Campbell and Walter Powell did. Famous for his ragged landings, he did what was required as the leader of this brave group of young men, held them together, did the work and got them home safely.
